The Vehicle Maintenance Technician services, repairs and maintains all types of vehicles and other mechanical equipment including portable and auxiliary generators, air compressors, mounted equipment, blowers, forklifts, and electrical controls. Also performs hydraulic and air-conditioning work. Responsible for insuring the safe operation and continued availability of company vehicles for use by company field forces. Performs other related duties as required.
Performs maintenance and repair of internal combustion engines, transmissions, brake systems, electrical systems, ignition and fuel systems, hydraulic systems, and steering and running gears; overhauls starters, generators, alternators, and carburetors; performs preventative maintenance inspection; tests, analyzes, make adjustments, and repairs to company motor vehicles. Makes use of standard automotive tools, and test equipment plus written material; maintains automotive equipment service records; welds with both gas and electric including vertical welding; provides hands-on training of other garage employees; and performs other related duties as required.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Perform maintenance repair and servicing on all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic components of all company vehicles, mounted equipment and mobile tools.
Maintains company vehicles, mounted equipment and mobile tools in accordance with Federal, State, and Corporate practices, procedures, and schedules. Maintain records and all paperwork.
Proficiently uses precision tools and test equipment for diagnosing, analyzing and correcting discrepancies on computerized vehicular, mobile tool and mounted equipment systems.
Answering phones, scheduling work, meeting due dates and parts inventory control.
Effectively communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
Operate a computer terminal and associated processing equipment for accessing multiple systems for input and retrieval of data.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
May be required to work both indoors and outdoors depending upon the needs of the business.
Must be able to work independently, as well with others, as part of a team, with minimum supervision utilizing good judgment and decision making skills.
Employee's current performance appraisal must indicate at least a "Satisfactory" overall rating. In addition, the employee must not be rated "Unsatisfactory" in any of the following performance factors: Quality of Work, Quantity of Work, Job Knowledge and Skill, Job Related Contacts or Judgment.
Attendance and punctuality must meet expected standards.
Must write legibly, have ability to maintain neat and accurate records and possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Must have a Class A CDL with air brakes or ability to receive one in the next 6 months.
Must have a valid state driver's license and a safe driving record. Must meet requirements of Frontier policies concerning operation of Company vehicles and the road test.
Must be available to work tours as scheduled including Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and for call-out during non-scheduled hours, and overtime as required.
Must be willing and ready to work in any assigned location and to attend schools for training as determined by the Company.
Must be ASE Masters Certified in either automobile/light truck or medium/heavy truck (Master Certification is defined as attaining certification in the automotive areas of A1 through A8 in the ASE accreditation process).
It must be determined that the person selected will be capable of learning all facets of the job after receiving standard training.
Must have the ability to diagnose and correct engine, fuel/air system and/or electrical system problems on all types of vehicles using diagnostic equipment.
The technician shall have 5 years of current mechanical experience.
Must be able to identify and distinguish color.
Ability to lift, push or pull heavy items frequently to120 pounds.
Ability to climb a ladder.
Read, write, and speak English.
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers.
Must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate
